I would not like to put an exact number on it, but it seems to me that the vast majority of popular songs are about love, happiness through love, break-up and loss. For example, look at the words of this Bill Withers song, "Ain't no Sunshine."
Wonder this time where she's gone
Wonder if she's gone to stay
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away.
Or this Harry Nilsson song, "Without You."

No, I can't forget tomorrow
When I think of all my sorrows
When I had you there but then I let you go
And now it's only fair that I should let you know
What you should know
I can't live, if living is without you
I can't live, I can't give any more.
Whoa! Sounds a bit over-dramatic, doesn't it? The house is not a home without his beloved and he can't live without her! Well, suppose it is not as over-dramatic as it sounds. Nobody, least of all me, is claiming that heartbreak is easy. I have had my share of this bitter-sweet condition to deal with. But suppose there is another angle to loss of love that may often be overlooked. Suppose that element concerns the loss of a reality shared with a partner.
Essentially, this refers to the tendency humans have of turning to others in order to create and share reality and, by doing so, they make sense of the world around them. This shared reality is a perceived commonality of inner states, for example: feelings, beliefs and concerns. What this means is that two people are drawn to be friends or lovers because they see and share the same truth. Eventually, this shared reality becomes a single lens through which the partners make sense of the world and so minds meet and merge.
But sharing the same reality can also explain why losing a lover can be so distressing and give rise to the lyrics in the songs above. Partners lose more than just a partner, they also lose their shared reality and this can make our lovelorn individual feel that their world no longer makes sense to him or her or it no longer feels real. This in turn can lead to a dramatic decrease in understanding who they are.
No wonder that so many love songs contain lyrics like these below.
You're my world, you are my night and day
You're my world, you're every prayer I pray
If our love ceases to be
Then it's the end of my world for me.
Hmmm... I think it might be better to remain single!
