Several of my stories have been inspired by newspaper articles, some of which were tucked away on the inside pages of (very) local press. For example, next time you visit Sidmouth in Devon, UK, get a copy of The Sidmouth Herald and read through it. Truth can be much stranger than fiction! The following series of pictures I found yesterday on the pages of the BBC news online. The article which accompanied the pictures sparked off my imagination and several ideas for stories came to me immediately.
Who are these children? When was the photo taken? Is it Europe? Look at the second photo.
Who are the two men above? Who and where are they? What is the link (if any) between the two photos? What happened to the third child? Now look at the following 2 photos.
Who are these people and when, in your opinion, were the photos taken? For me, these photos suggest a myriad of possible storylines and plots. If it were me, I would use the story to illustrate the theme of how the past can be present or the relationship between parents and children.
As to the first photo, enlarging it gives the words "A.Hutcheson & Son, Colinton, Edinburgh" - see http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/PP_D/pp_hutchison.htm
The first item reads:
Edinburgh Photographers
Alexander Hutcheson & Son
William J Hutcheson
R C Hutcheson
William J Hutcheson was listed as William J Hutchison in one directory.
This page contains several questions, not yet answered. I hope somebody will be able to provide some of the answers.
